Sora breathed a sigh of relief when she saw a clearing up ahead, pushing eagerly past the ferns and trees in hopes of getting out of the stuffy greenery. She'd been traipsing the island for hours already, and the steamy weather was really starting to get on her nerves. But it wasn't like she could leave...the fisherman she'd hired to bring her here (what was her name - Caustrie, Kastreal, something?) wasn't coming back in another few hours.
The clearing was suspiciously quiet when Sora stepped into it. Every now and then she would hear a bird call, but they were always far off. She took her longbow from her back and strung an arrow to it, stepping forward.
The ground erupted beneath her. Sora leapt out of the way just in time, almost losing her footing as she stared in horror at the huge wyrm that had burst forth. Ichor dripped from its fangs as it hissed before striking.
"Really hot weather, fine," Sora muttered as she attempted to dodge the wyrm and fight back. "Lots of bushes, fine." She grunted as her sword bounced off the wyrm's tough hide. "Annoying mosquitoes, fine." The wyrm struck and grazed her arm, breaking open the skin and letting blood run free. "Butt-ugly wyrm thingies in need of a dental checkup? Not fine. I have got to have the worst luck..."

She gave up on her sword and went for her bow again, which she had dropped when the wyrm came out of nowhere. Diving to the ground to dodge a stream of poisonous saliva that the wyrm shot at her, she grabbed the longbow off the ground and fumbled for an arrow.
But she didn't get the chance to shoot. Abruptly, clouds covering the sun slid off, letting down the rays of light on the earth. The wyrm spasmed in pain, foam frothing at the mouth, before it fell to the ground - dead.
Sora approached it cautiously, then remembered her training and backed away. "I'm not taking any chances with this place, treasure or not," she muttered, turning and running.
But a million questions raced through her head as she went on the return trip back to the mainland. What was that creature? And why had it died from sun exposure? What was it even doing on the island? She'd never heard of such things...
Probably just a one time thing, Sora decided, letting the sea breeze caress her face as the boat flew by on the waves, sending up a spray of salt water.
Little did she know how wrong she was...

And all the while, the unsuspecting Caustreal drank ale on her small fishing boat, trying to drown out the sorrows Sora's harsh words caused her. Caustreal had never met anyone so cruel and heartless! How could she?? Does she have no shame? How could someone so ununderstanding and rude exist on this world?
Swish, swash, swish, swash. Her usual source of comfort, the gentle swaying of her boat, now provides no solace - it only seeks to worsen her discomfit. After one final gulp of ale, Caustreal let herself yield to the darkness, and collapsed on the table, knocking things off in the process.
A random seagull flying by the boat paused for a while when it heard a soft mutter come from the cabin.
"Fish do NOT suck."
