A light pressure on her shoulder made her look up.
For the second time that day, she looked into the eyes of death.
But this time...he was different.
Through her tears, Kata could see his face. What surprised her the most wasn't how attractive it was. What she was instantly riveted to were his eyes.
She could...see eternity in them.
"I've come for you," he said quietly.
"I can't go yet," Kata responded. She felt herself growing hysterical. "I can't. I haven't...I haven't told him how I feel yet. But...I'm dying now, and there's nothing I can do..."
Wind shivered the grass on the field.
"Now is not yet your time," he said, and released her.
Kata woke up. And screamed again.
Haku dragged Keii away from her. "What?" the Rhumetown-lander protested. Haku rolled his eyes and bent down. "Kata. You okay?"
Kata fluttered her eyelids. "Where am I?"
Haku bent back up, hands clasped behind his back. "The Holy Temple in Wendel. I tell you, it was not a pretty thing, watching the cleric purge the poison from your leg."
"And it wasn't easy getting you here, either," Keii added over Haku's shoulder. Kata shook her head.
"But...I should be dead."
"You were very lucky," Haku corrected, wagging his finger at her. "This whole thing was too close for comfort. The cleric said you almost died for a second during the healing and if we hadn't gotten you here as fast as we did, you would have been gone. Just like that." He snapped his fingers.
Kata shook her head again and laid back down. "Was that what the god meant in my dream?" she murmured, to herself.
"What god?" Keii asked. "We heard you mumbling some word that started with a K a lot...were you dreaming about me?"
"What - no!" Kata flailed. "I was dreaming about Ky - " she slapped her hands over her mouth before she could finish the word.
Again, Keii and Haku looked curiously at her.
"You were dreaming about keys?" Keii said doubtfully.
"Whatever," Haku dismissed. "How're you feeling?"
Kata rubbed her forehead. "Not too great, but better than before, I guess. Where are the others?"
Haku glanced to the door. "Aizaku's in the bathroom. Shinji's with Xyla and Sora, talking to the High Priest."
Kata sat up and swung her legs over the edge of the bed. "I've got to go see them."
"Hey, hey, wait - " Haku hurried to catch up with her. "Are you even okay yet? You might collapse."
"I doubt it." Kata walked quickly out of the room. "Death's got nothing on me."
In the field, the death god carefully arranged a purple lilac on his lapel, smiled to himself, and blinked out of sight.

In Theos Katoikia, a place where no man has tread foot on for all eternity and the heavens stretch on farther than the eye can ever see, the fate of all men was being played out...in a card game.
Sometime before the heroes were heading across the snowfield to Wendel, or maybe after (in Theos Katoikia, time doesn't exactly apply as it does to the human world), Fate and Ater stared each other down across the table.
"Your move," said Ater.
"No, I'm fine, really," Fate responded, gesturing to his line-up of cards - Kata in defense, with the death god's blessing magic card aligned under her, and Sora, Xyla, Aizaku, Haku, and Keii in offense (each with their own special equip cards). "You go ahead."
"..." Ater glanced down at his side of the field - Shiki at the forefront in offense, the hydra removed from play, and several other factors. "Well, I'm kind of bored. Why don't we take a break?"
"Yeah, I'm missing the Drama of Ara's Life," agreed Fate, pushing back his chair and putting down his hand of cards. "And I need to go talk to Victor about something anyway."
"Oh. Sure. See you in ten light-years then?"
"What kind of break is that?" Fate complained. "Fifteen at least."
"Okay." Ater stood up and paused. "You better not look at my cards."
"I'll have AIC watch over the playing field while we're gone."
"Fine."
"Fine."
The two gods stared at each other as they walked past, snuck a peek at his opponent's playing hand when they thought the other wasn't looking, and walked off quickly.
A few light-years later, AIC slipped out from behind a pillar and sighed, hunkering down next to the table. He adjusted his sunglasses.
"...I never get Saturdays off," he muttered.
In a totally different dimension on the continent of Fysallida in Wendel country inside the Holy Temple interior (to be precise), the High Priest gazed up at the altar before him.
"When you arrived..." he spoke, turning to look at Sora, Xyla, and Shinji, "...something happened in here. There was a strange light at the altar, and a voice spoke to me."
Sora and Xyla nodded knowingly. Things like that happened all the time on Fysallida.
"It said it was a servant of the god Caelum, and that you all are to travel to Eruditio and train yourselves in order to fulfill your destinies and strike down Ater."
"..." Xyla stared. "We're going to strike down Ater?"
The High Priest shrugged. "Now you know, I guess?"
The weight of their destinies dropped down from the heavens and missed their shoulders entirely. Sora scratched her neck. "Okay then, is that all it said?"
The holy man rubbed his chin in thought. "It did mention something about choosing wise allies."
"Hmm..." Sora looked to Shinji, who also looked deep in thought. We're lucky to have him on the team, at least, she thought. "Thank you, Holy One."
The priest bowed. "Stay as long as you like and rest up until you need to continue on your journey."
Xyla turned to her two companions. "So if it's Caelum's decree, I guess we'd better start getting supplies? Eruditio's pretty far."
"Yeah, you're right." Sora tapped her cheek, compiling up a mental list of what to pack. "How long do you think we'll have to wait for Kata to recover?"
Shinji passed Xyla and Sora an incredulous look. "Are you kidding? Aren't you guys worried?"
Xyla was already walking out. Sora looked at Shinji sympathetically. "I hate to break it to you, but we're main characters, on the risk of repeating myself. We'll be striking down gods and saving damsels from distress till the day we get shanghai'ed up to Deus Domus as a reward for being such magnificent heroes."
"Oh...of course," Shinji said doubtfully, following them out.
[ who's up next? (Actually I forgot what awesome thing I was going to RP about, sorry) ]

OK SO I LIED ABOUT THE SHORT PART! " Hey you guys wait up for us!" Kata hurried toward Xyla, Sora, and Shiki as they headed out of the temple. Keii and Haku ran after her with their arms outstretched awaiting Kata's imminent tumble. " Hmm we almost forgot about them... I guess we are a bit worried after all?" Xyla wondered out loud, but she quickly changed her mind and came to a more reasonable conclusion. " OH THAT'S RIGHT! ARA'S LIFE IS DEBUTING TODAY! Come on! Lets hurry to the inn and watch it!" " You guys go on ahead... There's something I gotta do first." Shiki muttered with his brow furrowed in deep thought. " The premier is two hours long right? I'm not really into that sort of stuff so you guys head on to the inn to watch and I'll get some supplies and whatnot. Plus it'll give Kata some time to recover." " OKOKOKOK! DO WHATEVER YOU WANT! THE REST OF YOU GUYS HURRY AND FOLLOW ME!" Xyla grabbed Kata's hand and rushed out the temple doors with Haku and Keii close behind. Sora looked back at Shiki thoughtfully for a moment and then said, " Look you don't have to come with us. No offense, but you seem too normal to be a main character. I'm pretty sure we can handle Ater ourselves once we train." Shiki looked back with a smile. " No... I'll go with you guys. The priest said all of us are to take on Ater remember?" Sora left with a shrug. " And that's what worries me" Shiki muttered to himself. " Hey where did everyone go?" Aizaku looked around puzzled. He caught sight of Shiki talking with the priest and began walking over. " ...and you're sure he said all of us. Including me right? That we ALL would eventually have to take down Ater?" "Yes, that is exactly what Caelum's servant said. He said your group of 7 would eventually have to take down Ater, but he didn't say if you guys would succeed or not. Quite frankly though, I hope you do win so take this." " Hey Shinji what's up? Where is everyone else?" " Thank you." Shiki took the strange object from the priest. The second it touched him he felt an extremely cold sensation creep through his body. " Here Aizaku you take it. The others are at the inn watching Ara's Life." Aizaku took the object from Shiki's hand and stored it in his bag. " Oh that was today? Well that's gonna delay our trip to where ever we're going next. What are you doing and what's up with us fighting Ater?" " Well it turns out that we're like the 'chosen ones' and it's up to us to at least try to take down Ater. So in order to prepare we're to go to Eruditio and since we're not going anywhere for a few hours I thought it would be a good idea to stock up on supplies first." Shiki and Aizaku talked as they walked to the city. Eventually during their conversation Shiki admitted to be slightly worried about taking down Ater as it went against his "beliefs." " Well follow your beliefs and you won't go wrong. Like Sora said you never really seemed all that main character-like anyway, but if he said a group of 7 then perhaps it's you or we're going to switch a few members. You never know right?" " Yeah thanks for that." Shiki said although it still didn't help the conflict within him. On the one hand he owed Ater and the Overlord everything he had, yet on the other hand there was also... " SELINA!" " Who?" Aizaku looked in the direction Shiki was staring. He immediately saw what or who actually had caused Shiki so much surprise. [I'm not good at describing but this is the picture I saw when I thought up Selina's character just without the bottom lip piercing. Took me a while to find it again... no it's not the oldbag disguised version] " Oh there you are Shinji! I've been looking everywhere for you!" Selina rushed over to an amazed Shiki and gave him a quick squeeze. " It's been a while hasn't it? Who's your friend here?" " Oh erm... This is Aizaku. He's one of the people I'm traveling with." Shiki was still a bit red from the hug when he turned to Aizaku. " This is Selina. She and I go back a long way." " Nice to meet you Selina." " Nice to meet you too Aizaku." Selina gave him a quick handshake. " Despite what the stiff here says he and I are the best of friends. I've known him since I was hmm... maybe 7?" She then turned her attention back to Shiki. " You're traveling with people now huh? Interesting, it seems little Shinji has grown up eh? Well I'm going to have to meet these other people and get to know them as well since we're giong to all be traveling together." " Oh yeah that's a good... WAIT WHAT!?" Shiki exclaimed startled by her sudden statement. " But what about your um.. job?" " Ah it got put out of business ever since that hospital opened up. Since I have nothing else to do I figured I might as well hang out with you and go adventuring. Now lets go!" " We have to pick up some items first..." " Y..Yeah! We have to buy some equipment before we meet everyone else." Shiki quickly whispered to Aizaku, " Stall as long as possible. Please." Aizaku gave a quick nod and the trio went off to buy armor shields, and a colorful assortment of potions and other healing items. [We need another healer so what? Plus! This makes that group of 7 thing even more tricky. I also wanted her to come back since she's supposedly Shiki's love interest and so far she's been mentioned less than Kyousei...]

WE CAN EITHER SKIP OVER THE WHOLE OVERWORLD JOURNEY TO NECELLE AND JUST GO THERE OR SOMEONE CAN RP IT. Any ideas on what to change it to? His character hasn't been explored much besides the fact that he likes withdrawing things from the bank and has rawrsome hair... Someone should probably RP the journey so we can add in a random demon attack... We need some of those...
